Extracting files for CSCI 1450

Please download the files called New_Data.zip. This file contain the information needed for the majority of the in-class labs and homework assignments. I strongly suggest saving these files to a USB flash drive. For this example, I will assume these files are downloaded to a USB drive on a Windows XP PC with drive letter G:

Open My Computer and go to the G: drive. Right click New_Data.zip and select “Extract”. Run the Extraction Wizard by clicking “Next”, “Next” and “Finish”. This should have created a new folder on the G: drive called New_Data. Next, create a new folder called HTML on the G: drive by Selecting File --> New --> Folder from the pulldown menu in G: and name it HTML. Open the New_Data folder and copy tutorials 1 through 10 plus addcases from that folder to the HTML folder. At this point, delete the folder new_data as well as the compressed folders new_data.zip. Highlight the folder HTML and select Edit --> Copy from the pulldown menu, then select Edit --> Paste. Highlight the new folder and select File --> Rename from the pulldown menu and call it HTMLBACKUP. You should now be ready to start the homework.

If you are using an older version of Windows or a different Operating System, you may encounter problems extracting the data from the zipped files. A free 30 day trial version can be download from www.pkware.com/home_and_small_office/downloads/. Please contact the instructor if you have any questions.
